The Maker’s Diet
Several months ago when Jason was going through a serious bout of allergies, eczema, and viral outbreak, a friend emailed us and told us about a diet plan called “The Maker’s Diet.” The diet is based on the Old Testament dietary restrictions and food preparation principles that God gave to the Israelites. The author of the book, Jordan S. Rubin, is a messianic Jew who at the age of 19, suddenly developed Crohn’s disease, lost half his body weight (190 to 103) within a year, contracted all sorts of illnesses/infections, and almost died.
Someone introduced the Bible diet to him, so he tried it and it turned his health/life around within a few months! He went on to research the science and principles behind the Bible diet, got a few degrees, became a doctor of naturopathic medicine and a certified nutritional consultant, and wrote a few books on health & diet. He now devotes his time to sharing the knowledge he gained from his experiences with others facing debilitating illness and all kinds of health issues.
We Are What We Eat
In the past few months due to all sorts of illnesses, health issues, and genetic factors in the family, we’ve been a lot more health conscious about our lifestyle choices and what we eat. Our own research unveiled that a lot of modern day illnesses and diseases like obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and allergies have a strong correlation with our modern day diet of highly refined and processed food. As if Jason’s list of food allergies wasn’t already restricting enough, we also decided to eliminate/avoid high-sugar foods like sweets, white starch (bleached flour, white rice), and processed food. This means not eating out much (or at all) and eating a lot of homecooked meals made from scratch.
When we heard about the Bible diet, we were curious to learn more about what Rubin has to share. We got “The Maker’s Diet” book and are looking into trying this diet plan for 40 days. We’re still doing more research, like understanding the science and Biblical principles behind the diet as well as seeing what options we have for following the diet in China. It’s not easy finding organic, non-GMO, kosher, and “healthy” food items/ingredients in Shanghai. We’ll probably have to scour the entire city and pay exorbitant prices for a few things.
In any case, we’d like to document some of the things we’re learning, share our journey (whenever we start the diet), and track changes (if any) in our health. We’d like to see some drastic changes in our overall health/well-being, and if possible, maintain a healthier lifestyle.
Here we go! Stay tuned!
