One Yucky Slushy Day

Shanghai continues to exhibit abnormal weather condition this week. This morning when we headed out to work, we were surprised to discover, not snow nor rain, but whatever-you-call-that-half-snow-and-half-rain-thing falling. The ground was completed covered with snow. The cars parked in the lot were completed covered in white, some with snow graffiti written on them.

The scene of Shanghai covered in snow would have been a pretty scene, unusually rare in Shanghai, except when it comes to reality, it means the ground is covered in muddy slushy piles of yuck.

That’s what happens when you combine snow and rain in a very polluted city. Walking no more than 2 minutes on this slushy muck and the shoes, the socks, and the feet are completely soaked. People all around, treading slowly and carefully along the roads as not to slip and fall. Even cars and buses have slowed down. All the subway entrances sealed the central staircases forcing people to take the escalators. It would not have been a pretty sight if one were to slip and cause a domino collapse down the stairs.

This is a view of Shanghai from the top.
