We (actually, just Susan) changed the design of our Wordpress blog once again and we’re pretty pleased with this new layout. The last design broke due to some modifications that were irreversible. as was also the case with the design before that!  This happens when you don’t backup the template files before making changes. Reminder to self next time modifications are needed.

After working at NI for several weeks and learning all sorts of software, tools, HTML, CSS stylesheet, XML, and the like, web design is so much easier now!  In the past, it was all trial and error, tweaking numbers, variables, files and graphics to see what happens without any idea the real meaning to all the coding.  Now, everything makes so much sense! Understanding CSS is really the key to making web blogs look professional. In addition, basic PHP knowledge is helpful in adding extra features such as tag clouds, recent posts, RSS feeds, Google adsense, etc… to the blog.

Susan is now providing blog setup/design consultation to anyone interested in owning their own blog page. This is most applicable to people living in China now that most free blogging services are blocked, including but not limited to Xanga, Blogspot, Live Journal and Wordpress.com.
