… as Susan’s sister so eloquently described the condition of our apartment when we returned three nights ago. After six long months of “zhuang xiu“, we moved into our new home in August, and was barely lived in for a month before we took off for 6 weeks to the U.S.

Despite the mystery leak in the bathroom that bred a swarm of creepy crawlers, the random blotches of crackling paint, the ever lingering smell of “zhuang xiu” still remnant after 3 months, the moldy cabinet caused by “plum rain” season, the shower door that fell off the hinge, and the constant draft from windows that don’t quite shut, it is so nice to be back “home”, whatever that means. We’ve lived near 30 years as wandering nomads and for once in our life, have finally found our nest (or so we think). But we are reminded still that all this — the things we seek after that never quite satisfy — will one day pass away.

But until then, time to call our contractor to do some fixing!
