Notice a few extra Google ads on our website lately? Susan’s been experimenting with Google Adsense to see if our website can generate a bit of income, at least to cover a little bit of the web hosting cost. It’s not heavily trafficked although many of the visitor counts are probably coming from Technorati. Google Adsense was a suggestion given by another blogger to help pay for the costs of personal web hosting. The Great Firewall of China has already blocked many free blogging portals like Xanga, Blogspot, and Blogger. Thus, bloggers have to resort to personal web hosting to have their own blogsite. We are fortunate to have our own web hosting through BlueHost and although it only costs about $8 USD a month (~$100 USD a year), it will add up if we plan to keep up the website for a long time.
How Google Adsense works is that you place the adsense source code wherever you want ads to appear. Google generates the ads based on the content of the page or post. When readers click on these ads, we get paid by the click.
So let’s see… one week of experimenting with Google Adsense, and this is our report.

We made a whopping $0.21! Wow, what a kick! Not quite enough to retire on, but if the clicks continue, we can generate at least $10 USD in a year! That’ll cover least one month of web hosting! Hee hee…
