20 boxes already and those are just the books. The place looks just as filled and cluttered with unbelievable amount of “stuff”. And we are NOT pack rats nor shop-a-holics. We hardly buy things of non-practical value and most non-edible gifts/presents received usually end up donated to charity or given to our ahyi. (oops… sorry, that’s the truth) Nor do we keep things of sentimental value. We’re done and over with all the sentimental stuff. Moved around a least a gazillion times between the two of us. Perhaps the purging had done some irreparable damage to our heart, so much that little room is left for physical tangible keepsake?
So the question is, why do we still have so much JUNK around the house that is waiting to be packed?? But the bigger question is, why are there ten times the amount of shelving and storage space at our new place? Even our contractor and our friends’ contractors shook their heads and gawked at the amount of cabinetry we designed/built. They muttered under their breath, “It’s an American thing…”
Friends, thanks for all your gifts and generosity over the years. We really appreciate the thoughts that count. As we move into our new home, hopefully with only things we need, and whenever we can afford furniture/furnishings and have a housewarming party, we ask please, not to bring any gifts but your gift of love. If you must insist on bringing something over, being Chinese and “li mao” (polite), then by all means, bake some wheat-free, lactose-free goodies for Jason. Despite Carrefoure having eight aisles of snacks/dessert, there isn’t anything he can eat. As for Susan, maybe some fruits (like mangoes, strawberries, papaya, watermelon, pineapple) and she’ll make smoothies for everyone. Yay for the new American-sized automatic ice-making refrigerator!
