Wiki Block

Wikipedia has always been blocked in China but for nearly one whole month, it was unblocked (for the first time). Chinese internet users had the liberty to read up on everything from news to politics to entertainment. Ahh…. the luxuries of having vast amount of information at large and easily accessible. It’s even become an addition, reading up on the latest episode summaries of Heroes, Lost, and Grey’s Anatomy.

And now, it’s blocked AGAIN. =(

Back to using the proxy servers. Those of you who don’t know, here are two proxy servers that you can use to access blocked websites. http://www.vtunnel.com/ and http://anonymouse.org/

Another alternative is http://www.answers.com/ which is basically a mirror of Wikipedia’s content. There’s a lag between it and the actual Wikipedia so it’s not as good for current events, but it’s still pretty useful.

If you want to pay a few $/month, you can also look into a VPN solution, like http://www.relakks.com — that way, not only do you bypass any website blocks, but everything (web, IM, etc) will be encrypted, so they won’t be able to monitor your Internet use.
