“And Jesus said: I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ” Matthew 18

It’s been a very very long week and it’s not over yet! Today, Sunday, is the 7th day of a nine day school/work week for Susan and all the teachers/students in Shanghai. (see earlier post about why) Only in China …

Yesterday during one class (first grader), a student had difficulty getting one of the computer program to work. Susan went over to help the student and in the middle of helping, he yanked Susan’s hand away from the keyboard and pushed her away. (Apparently the student figured it out and don’t need help anymore.) It’s one of those shocking moment when a teacher goes from a smile to frown in a split second and about ready to spank the child for such rude behavior!

Susan pulled the student aside and reprimanded him for his rudeness. The student with big puppy eyes and sad face, looked straight into Susan and apologized.

“I am sorry, Ms. Wu. I will never do that again. Will you forgive me?”

It’s another one of those moments when a teacher (or parent) melts and forgets whatever it was that made made him/her upset in the first place.

Today, the same student had a problem with his computer and raised his hand for help. Susan went over to help him. He was much more polite this time and after the problem was solved, he looked straight into Susan with a big smile and said:

“Can we be friends?”

..

Will somebody scoop Susan up from the ground?
