During her childhood, Susan had a Rubik’s Cube (3×3) and she would peel the stickers and put them back in place to show that she could solve the darn piece of puzzle. One day in high school, she saw a classmate solve the cube right infront of her and within minutes! Filled with awe and inspiration, she decided her purpose in life was to solve the rubix cube without peeling the stickers… and she did. She mastered the art of rotating and switching sides, corners, and edges so well that she could solve the cube in less than a minute! Fastest record being 36 seconds. (Guiness world record is 11 seconds)
What does one do after his/her life purpose has been accomplished? That has been a question which has troubled Susan for some time, until…
Chinese New Years, Jason and Susan went to Hong Kong and visited a Toys R Us store. The visit rekindled many childhood memories. What caught her eyes was not the Rubix Cube (3×3) but the Rubix Revenge (4×4)!
For the price of 120 HKD, Susan’s search for the purpose and meaning of her existence was once again discovered. Immediately following the purchase was a meal at a dim sum restaurant where Susan zoned out to her world of colored squares. Just as she was about to solve one face of the cube, one of the squares popped out of place and in her state of panic and attempt to pop the square back in, the entire cube fell apart and all that was left was a core and 56 pieces of colored squares. Agh! Made in China! Susan was totally and utterly crushed! Purpose no more, she put all the pieces of her LIFE in a plastic bag. It was during the train ride to Guangzhou that she was able to slowly and carefully piece her life back together, proudly presenting her “accomplished” cube. Ha! Just like childhood.
Since then, many hours and days have gone to smoke slaving away at the cube. Susan’s memory doesn’t function like her youthful days anymore, thus it was quite a challenge remembering all the positions and rotations in her head as she twisted and turned. Many a times, she came close, but was always just a few squares out of place. Refusing to give up, she devoted much of her energy and attention on this “inanimate object”, to Jason’s jealousy. And alas, she finally finally finally FINALLY figured it all out 9:02pm last night! Mission accomplished!
